We had over 1600 replies to our Fitness Survey, so thanks to everyone who took part in that! We’ll be using the data to help design our upcoming games and decide what features, services and devices to develop in the future. We’ll be contacting one of you at random via email so that we can send you your Zombies, Run! prize.
An 2.5.1 update to Zombies, Run! on iOS has just gone live today, too. This will solve any crashing issues you might be experiencing after you installed Zombies, Run! version 2.5 recently. Sorry about that!
We’ve also just released a new 1.0.2 update to The Walk on iOS which greatly improves the app’s ability to track your walking, plus it fixes several bugs. So if you’ve noticed that the app has not been keeping up with your walks, install the update and give it a try. We have some updates coming for the Android version of The Walk soon, too!
The Zombies, Run! community continues to astound us. At Six to Start, we usually see it as our jobs to deliver goodies to Zombies, Run! fans, but you guys had to go and do one better. We received a care package from a group of you, containing all manner of thoughtful, creative fan-made Zombies, Run! gifts.
Look! See? Awesome miniature versions of your favourite Zombies, Run! characters made from modelling clay. And that’s just scratching the surface.
The entire company gathered round to watch the box being opened. And not just because it contained a large quantity of curly wurlys! From left to right, you can see community support / QA testers Lou Atherton and Brad Porter, lead writer Naomi Alderman, developers Jeremy Stevens, Babu Madhikarmi and Mo Ramezanpoor, writer Rebecca Levene, developer Alex Primavesi, your humble community manager Jem Alexander, director Matt Wieteska, office manager Sophie Baker and producer Georgina Hulland-Brown. Our CEO, Adrian Hon, is hiding behind the camera.
The curly wurlys went down especially well with the game’s lead writer, Naomi Alderman.
Community member Sarah McTavish (SarahRunsFromZombies), created an incredible doll of Runner 8, complete with a little meat cleaver attached to a little broomstick. She’s made from all natural materials and stuffed with wool sourced locally from the Toronto area of Canada. She’s amazingly soft and Naomi has already threatened to take her home to keep her.
Emma St. John (Crownleys) has produced a gorgeous piece of artwork displaying Sam Yao, Janine de Luca, Runner 8, Maxine Myers and Jack & Eugene. We’re looking forward to getting this framed and putting it up somewhere special in the office!
Lizz (collected-sports-bra), Emily (samyaoza-and-sportsbras) and Ana (thesassterreborn) have put together a CD of tracks produced by mixing Zombies, Run! clips with music. It’s called Zombies, Listen!, obviously. A very thoughtful gift that must’ve taken a while to put together!
Finally, Ciaran Roberts (Zalia Chimera) has put together a stunning book full of messages, stories and pieces of artwork by a variety of Zombies, Run! community members. Some really touching words and sentiments are contained within. We’ll treasure it always.
A huge thanks to everyone who collaborated on this incredibly kind gesture. We love it! We look forward to bringing you many more adventures and characters for you to fall in love with in the future.
Want to influence the development of future fitness games at Six to Start? By filling out the Six to Start fitness survey, you could help dictate features, device compatibility and more for upcoming games and updates!
All you have to do is head over to the survey page and fill it in. Shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes; it’s mostly multiple choice.
As an added incentive, if you include your email address in the survey (completely optional!) we’ll enter you into a prize draw to win a Zombies, Run! goodie bag.
Thanks very much for taking the time to fill in the survey! We really appreciate your feedback.
We’ve just added some great new features to the latest version of Zombies, Run! on iOS, which is now available on the App Store for updating. Take a look at some of the new features and improvements in Zombies, Run! 2.5:
Firstly, we’ve refined and improved the music player so that it seamlessly plays all the music in your library — even if they have DRM or are streamed via iTunes Match!
You can now also see a map of your surroundings during a Zombies, Run! mission. If you’re being tracked by GPS, your device will display the map of the area, along with the route that you’ve already run.
We’ve also improved the speech synthesis on iOS 7 devices — say goodbye to the old computer voice, and say hello to the super-clear Apple voices! Finally, missions will start faster than ever, and we’ve improved the general performance of the app and squashed a bunch of bugs.
Be sure to let us know what you think of the update. This is probably the last new major release until Zombies, Run! Season 3, which we’ll have more to reveal in the coming weeks…
Welcome to 2014! We’ve got a lot planned for the next twelve months – and beyond! That means plenty of updates and improvements to Zombies, Run! as well as The Walk, plus some exciting new projects we can’t wait to share with you.
We’ll have more to share with you soon, but in the meantime we wanted to wish you all a very happy new year! We hope you’re having fun with Zombies, Run! Maybe some of you are taking the new year as an opportunity to catch back up with the story? Perhaps you’ve resolved to do more running in the new year? Or to get back into an old exercise habit. Maybe you just want to lose a little Christmas weight that you put on over the holidays… Between Zombies, Run!, The Walk and Zombies, Run! 5k Training, we’ve got you covered!
So let us know how things are going with your Zombies, Run! adventure. We’re eager to hear from you.
Hello everyone! We’re aware there’s some confusion about how The Walk works for those of you who are avid Zombies, Run! players. The thing is, despite both being awesome fitness apps that vastly improve your life, the two games are actually very different.
We designed The Walk to be more of an ‘all-day’ experience than Zombies, Run! We love that people are ‘going for a walk’ with The Walk in the same way they ‘go for a run’ with Zombies, Run! — but we also wanted the game to work in a broader way.
The Walk was designed not just based on the practical advice of scientists and doctors, but also with people’s normal habits in mind. That’s why it behaves as an activity tracker that encourages you to walk an extra five or ten minutes here and there throughout the day rather than making you go on hour-long walks with your headphones in.
The iOS version of The Walk even has push notifications that will alert you whenever you’ve unlocked a new story clip, so you don’t need to keep checking the app. Just set it running, forget about it, and check your lock screen to listen to clips in a row at your leisure. And when you’re ready you can view your rewards, listen to your new story clips, and plan your route.
We love long walks as much as the next person, but we know that’s impractical for a lot of people to do every day. Instead, we’re hoping to encourage you to take healthier routes and develop healthier habits — fewer car journeys or public transport and more walking, where possible!
Of course, you can still listen to the story as you walk, but as you progress through the story, you may find it easier to unlock a few clips before listening to them. You can do this by, visit the map selection screen and tap on the speech bubble icon, where you can queue up entire episodes to listen to.
Zombies, Run! is a great fitness tracker for bursts of exercise, such as jogging, cycling or long walks in the countryside. Whereas The Walk is an excellent way to track your every day activities. There’s absolutely nothing stopping you from running both simultaneously!
Have fun, and keep walking (and running)! Plus, stay tuned for more news about Zombies, Run! Season 3…
We’re ecstatic to announce that our latest app, The Walk, is now available on iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices!
$3.99 / £2.59 / €3.59
If you enjoyed Zombies, Run!, you’re going to love this one. And if you wanted to play Zombies, Run! but said to yourself “it’s not for me, I don’t run!”, you’ll love The Walk even more. Once again, we’ve mixed fitness tracking together with a gripping, immersive story and game in an unprecedented collaboration with the UK’s Department of Health and the NHS.
The Walk will track how much walking you do per day, like a pedometer, and we’ll set you daily goals to help you walk more every day and stay healthy. As you walk, you’ll unlock new parts of the story, which is told via fully voiced audio clips, much like Zombies, Run! The app runs in the background using our special battery saving tracking system and measures the number of steps and the distance travelled on any given day.
There’s a massive amount of content in The Walk — over three month’s worth! It’s an epic techno-thriller that puts you in the shoes of Walker, a mysterious hero tasked with delivering a mysterious package after an explosion at Inverness station disables the entire country’s electronics and transport infrastructure. You’ll need to walk the length of the UK in order to find out what’s going on and who you can trust. If you make it, maybe you can save the world…
We’ve previously announced that Zombies, Run! players will recognise many of the voices in The Walk. We’ve brought back a bunch of actors to play all new characters in this story, including Philip Nightingale (Sam Yao), Olga Leon (Archie), Jen Tan (Runner 4 and Nadia) and Victoria Grove (Paula).
The Walk is perfect for anyone wanting to keep healthy by being more active. You don’t have to be a fitness fanatic, the game adapts its goals to your fitness history. As reported by the BBC, just 150 minutes of weekly moderate physical activity could significantly improve your health. This could be the most important New Year’s Resolution you’ve ever made.
You can grab The Walk right now from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Usually the game will cost $4.99 (£2.99 / €4.49) but we’ve cut the price by 20% for launch to just $3.99! (£2.59 / €3.59). Be quick, though, this special price will only last for a week!
The Walk is so close to being complete and ready to release. So much so that we’re ready to nail down a final release date for both the iPhone/iPod Touch and Android versions of the game. You can finally get your hands on The Walk on Wednesday December 11; this will be a simultaneous release on both platforms!
Not heard about The Walk before? Where have you been! It’s our new fitness app that monitors your daily walking activity and sets you goals for keeping it at a healthy level. It does so while immersing you in a techno-thriller tale set in the near future. Check out the official website for more information.
If you’re a games journalist/blogger/YouTuber who’s interested in checking out The Walk on iOS, be sure to let us know by emailing us at hello@sixtostart.com.
We’ve have a very special new limited edition tee design for you in time for Christmas! This special tee is the first that we’ve made that features character artwork*, and it’s by awesome fan artist Kascha Sweeney.
On the front you’ll find Kascha’s designs of fan favourite characters including Radio Abel DJs Jack and Eugene being chased by zombies, while the back of the t-shirt depicts some of Abel Township’s most important residents. Can you guess who’s who?
This will make a perfect Christmas present for your friends, family, enemies, and all current and future Runner 5s out there!
Check out the Teespring page for more details, including sizing and colour info. Be quick, though: this design will only be available until Sunday December 8th. After that, there’s no guarantee we will be offering this shirt again!
We’re closing the old Zombies, Run! merchandise shop very soon – as soon as you guys buy all our stock from us, that is. There’s a very limited amount of t-shirts and posters still available with 70% off, so head on over and find yourselves a bargain.
Medium and large sizes are all gone, but there are some XL and XXL available in all colours in both men and women’s fits.
If you’re looking for new t-shirt designs, however, you won’t have long to wait because we’ll be releasing a special Christmas Zombies, Run! t-shirt soon – soon enough that you’ll have yours in hand to give to your favourite Runner 5 for Christmas. Or to keep for yourself! That’s also a perfectly valid option.
But don’t forget our main store which is still around and fully stocked with all sorts of goodies. And there’s still plenty of time to ship things all over the world before Christmas, so check it out!
